Feb. 6, 1940 - Sept. 10, 2016

Joseph Dave Morris, a long-time Cushing resident, died Sept. 10, 2016 in Edmond. He was 76.
His funeral services are under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing and will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Euchee Valley Memorial Park in Cushing.
Family visitation will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.
Joseph was born Feb. 6, 1940 in Cushing to Johnnie and Fallis Worley Morris. He grew up in Cushing and attended Cushing Public Schools.
He left school early to serve his country in the U.S. Army for three years. He earned his GED after being honorably discharged.
Joseph served three years as an army reservist.
On July 27, 1969 Joseph married Betty Brookins in Fort Worth, Texas. They had six children, Vivian, Melissa, Evona, Theresa, Joseph R., and Benjamin.
After his military service, Joseph hauled hay throughout the central United States before he began work in the oil field as a pipe fitter. He later received his certification in welding.
He worked for many oil companies throughout his life: Hudson refinery, Kerr McGee and Sinclair Oil. He retired in 2007 from Sinclair.
He excelled at welding because he looked at it as a hobby and not a job.
In his free time, he enjoyed making everything from trailers to end tables and took pride in every piece that he built. He also loved to repair old cars and was quite the shade-tree mechanic.
Joseph was also an avid fisher and treasure hunter.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 47 years, Betty Morris, of the home; one son, Benjamin Morris of Cushing; four daughters, Vivian Morris of Dallas, Texas, Melissa Anderson and husband, Dwight of Guthrie, Evona Morris of Dallas, Theresa Morris of Stillwater; three brothers, Lugene Morris and wife, Pearl of Oklahoma City, Ezell Morris and wife, Betty of Oklahoma City, Nathaniel Morris of Guadalajara, Mexico; three sisters, Addie Mae Morris of Eagle Butte, South Dakota, Betty Morris of Stillwater, Gloria Dean Boyd of Tulsa; three grandchildren, Jhared Anderson, Rhyann Anderson, and Danielle Danforth; and numerous relatives and friends.
Joseph was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Ruben Morris; his parents, Johnnie and Fallis Worley Morris; six siblings, Jesse Revels, Pearl Brown, Marvin Morris, Mary Ann Morris, Loretta Massie, and Samuel Morris.
