Tanner Blackmore won a gold medal and Cushing High School qualified 20 athletes for the Class 4A state track and field championships.
Eleven girls and nine boys will represent CHS Friday and Saturday at Frank McNabb Field in Catoosa. The state meet for Class 4A will begin at 10 a.m. Friday with the long jump for boys and girls.
The long jump will be without Trey Morris, state runner-up a year ago. He struggled during the regional meet at Luther and placed eight at 20 feet, 1.5 inches.
England Honeybuss qualified for the state meet by jumping 20-8 and placing fourth.
The top three finishers in each regional automatically qualified for state. The best fourth- and fifth-place times also qualified.
Cushing was second in the girls regional at Luther. The Tiger boys tied for fifth with Kingfisher, one-half point behind Star Spencer. The CHS girls finished with 104 points. Lincoln Christian won with 158.
Tulsa Central won the boys meet with 112 points. Lincoln Christian was second.
Blackmore was Cushing’s only regional champion. He won the boys 800-meter dash in 2 minutes, 2.83 seconds. Blackmore also qualified for state in the 400 by placing fifth in 52.57 seconds.
Paul Giddeon qualified in two individual events, the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200-meter run. He was fourth in the mile and third in the two mile.
Honeybuss will compte in three events at state. He was part of Cushing’s third-place 4x200-meter relay and 4x400 relay. Josiah Wright, Nick Criner, Honeybuss and Morris made up both relay teams.
Sophomore Nadia Mooreland and freshman Braelyn Berlowitz led the way for Cushing’s girls. Mooreland was second in the 100-meter dash and anchored two Lady Tiger relay teams. Cushing was second in the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800.
Mooreland finished near the lead in the girls 200-meter dash but was disqualified for running into the wrong lane.
Berlowitz placed third in the girls 400 and ran legs on three qualifying relay teams.
